Bob’s in depth studies and experience have yielded a rare proficiency in an unusually eclectic range of genres. A graduate of Queens College, CUNY Bob had extensive private guitar studies in jazz, blues, folk, ragtime, rock, and classical styles, as well as applied music theory. His teachers included noted New York classical guitarist Jerry Willard and Howard Morgan, a jazz guitar legend who considered Bob one of his prize students.

Bob began teaching guitar in 1973, giving both private lessons and teaching classes for a string of notable music schools on the east coast including the Roslyn Guitar Workshop and Eddie Simon’s Guitar Study Center. Bob and his wife and business partner Gail started their own successful music schools, first in New York and then on the west coast with The Beverly Hills Guitar Workshop. Many of Bob’s students went on to become professional musicians.

Bob began playing guitar at age 11 and at 16 years his band won the Nassau County Battle of the Bands where Bob was named the county’s best guitarist by Jerry Ash, owner of Sam Ash Music. As a working musician he was a well-known rock, jazz and blues guitarist playing the New York club circuit with his own band, performing in pit orchestras for Broadway Shows including Grease, working as a session musician, performing solo guitar at the top of the World Trade Center, and as an in-demand guitarist for several of the busiest New York club date orchestras. Bob also appeared on TV including two episodes of the syndicated show The Wonder Years with his wife Gail and their band.

After coming to Los Angeles Bob and his wife Gail started Bob Gail Orchestras and Entertainment leading their own 10 to 21-piece variety band performing for high-profile corporate, celebrity, society, sports and political events. Their popularity grew when they were personally invited by the then newly elected President Bill Clinton to perform at his inaugural ball at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Their company, with the help of their 4 children, expanded into one of the busiest music and talent booking agencies and event planning companies in the country, producing up to 1000 events per year and traveling all around the world.

Bob has now decided to step back from running the company (2 of his sons, his daughter and daughter-in-law have taken the reins of the company) to go back to one of his first loves of playing guitar and teaching.
